He Is Risen: Celebrating the Power of Resurrection Sunday
βHe is not here: for he is risen, as he said.β β Matthew 28:6 (KJV)
Resurrection Sunday stands as the most powerful and hope-filled day in all of history. It is the day we celebrate the victory of Jesus Christ over death, sin, and the grave. His resurrection confirmed every word He spoke, fulfilled prophecy, and secured the promise of eternal life for all who believe.
Early that Sunday morning, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb, only to find it empty. Soon after, she became the first to see the risen Savior. Jesus said to her, βTouch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Fatherβ¦β (John 20:17). She was given the privilege to carry the message of His resurrection to the disciplesβa message that still echoes through the ages: He is risen.
Christβs Victory Over Death
Through His death, Jesus paid the price for sin. Through His resurrection, He declared victory over death. The Apostle Paul rejoiced in this truth, saying, βO death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?β (1 Corinthians 15:55). Jesus broke the power of the grave and now offers eternal life to all who place their trust in Him.
Because Christ lives, we have the assurance that we too shall live (John 14:19). His resurrection is not just a historical factβit is the foundation of our faith and our future.
The Promise Fulfilled
The resurrection was not a surprise to Godβs people. It was foretold throughout the Scriptures. David prophesied that Godβs Holy One would not see corruption (Psalm 16:10). Isaiah spoke of the suffering servant who would see His seed and prolong His days (Isaiah 53:10). Jesus Himself told His followers that He would rise again the third day (Matthew 16:21). On Resurrection Sunday, those promises were fulfilled.
A Call to Newness of Life
The resurrection is not only about what Jesus didβitβs about what He does in us today. Romans 6:4 tells us that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, βeven so we also should walk in newness of life.β We are called to live as those who have been raised with Himβturning from sin and walking in the power of His resurrection.
The Hope of Whatβs to Come
Resurrection Sunday reminds us that the story is not over. The same Jesus who rose again is coming back. For those who belong to Him, there is the promise of resurrection to eternal life. βFor the Lord himself shall descend from heavenβ¦ and the dead in Christ shall rise firstβ (1 Thessalonians 4:16). The resurrection assures us that death is not the end.
A Message Worth Sharing
Mary Magdalene was the first to carry the message of the risen Christ. Today, we carry that same message to the world. Jesus lives. The tomb is empty. Sin is defeated. Eternal life is available to all who believe.
Let this Resurrection Sunday stir your heart with fresh faith. Let it remind you that Christ is aliveβand because He lives, you have hope, purpose, and a future.
He is risen indeed. Glory to God!
