The True Meaning of Christmas: A Time for Family, Friends, and Faith
As the Christmas season approaches, it is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of gift-giving, decorating, and festive gatherings. While these traditions bring joy and togetherness, we must remember the true reason we celebrate this season: the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
The angel proclaimed to the shepherds on that holy night:
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)
This declaration reminds us that Christmas is not about material things but about the greatest gift ever given: salvation through Jesus Christ. God’s love for us was so profound that He sent His only begotten Son into the world to bring light and hope:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Celebrating Christmas with Family and Friends
Christmas is also a time to cherish the blessings of family and friends. It is an opportunity to reflect on the love and fellowship we share, which reflects God’s love for us. As believers, we are called to love one another as Christ loved us:
“This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.” (John 15:12)
Gathering together, whether around the dinner table or in worship, allows us to strengthen bonds and share in the joy of the season. It is also a time to extend grace and forgiveness, embodying the love and peace that Christ brings.
A Season of Giving and Gratitude
The wise men brought gifts to honor Jesus:
“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:11)
Their gifts symbolized worship, honor, and sacrifice. Likewise, we are reminded to give—not just material gifts but also our time, compassion, and kindness to those in need.
“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)
This Christmas, consider how you can reflect Christ’s love through acts of service and generosity, blessing others as He has blessed us.
Keeping Christ at the Center of Christmas
Amid the festivities, let us not forget the profound significance of Christ’s birth. Take time to read the Nativity story in Luke 2 with your loved ones, meditate on the Scriptures, and worship the Lord together. This will help keep Christ at the center of your celebrations.
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)
This season, may your hearts be filled with the joy of Christ’s love, the peace of His presence, and the hope of His promises. From all of us at King James Bible College, we wish you and your family a blessed and Christ-centered Christmas.
