This course provides a rich study of five powerful New Testament epistles written to strengthen believers in times of persecution, deception, and spiritual challenge. Through the letters of Peter and John, students will gain a deeper understanding of steadfast faith, holy living, discernment, and unwavering commitment to the truth of Jesus Christ.
In 1st and 2nd Peter, the Apostle Peter writes to believers scattered abroad, encouraging them to endure suffering for righteousness’ sake and to stand firm in their faith. First Peter emphasizes hope in Christ, holiness in daily living, and perseverance through trials. Second Peter warns against false teachers and spiritual corruption while urging believers to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord, reminding them of the certainty of Christ’s return and coming judgment.
In 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John, the Apostle John focuses on truth, love, and obedience as evidence of genuine fellowship with God. First John teaches discernment between truth and error and highlights the marks of true salvation. Second John warns against those who deny Christ’s incarnation, and Third John commends believers who faithfully walk in truth and love.
Together, these epistles call the church to purity, perseverance, doctrinal soundness, and confident assurance of salvation. Students will be challenged to stand firm in biblical truth, walk in love, and remain steadfast in faith while looking for the blessed hope of Christ’s return.

102nd, and 3rd John: Walking in Truth, Love, and Faithful Service
Introduction to 2nd and 3rd John
The Epistles of 2nd and 3rd John, though brief, serve as vital continuations of the themes introduced in 1st John. Both letters were written by the Apostle John and emphasize truth, love, and faithfulness to Christ’s doctrine. These letters offer insight into the early church’s struggle against false teachers and the importance of maintaining integrity and hospitality among believers.
2nd John is directed to “the elect lady and her children,” symbolizing either a faithful Christian woman and her family or a local congregation. It stresses the need to walk in truth and love while warning against supporting false teachers who deny the doctrine of Christ.
3rd John, addressed to Gaius, focuses on the virtue of hospitality and the contrast between those who serve selflessly for the truth and those, like Diotrephes, who reject apostolic authority. Both letters reflect John’s deep pastoral concern for maintaining purity in doctrine and love within the body of Christ.
